Hands on People (HOP) is a community services provider dedicated to supporting individuals living with disabilities. Our mission is to empower our clients by helping them navigate government and insurance schemes, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), to access support more efficiently. Job Description

A Disability Support worker’s purpose is to help people with disabilities by providing hands-on and emotional support, so they can live happy and meaningful lives. Carers stand up for the people they care for, making sure their needs are met. They play an important role in making sure people with disabilities have the support they need to succeed.

Some of the Duties are but not Limited

  • Medication Administration
  • Manual handling and hoisting of participants
  • Assessing participants to determine continuing needs
  • Ensuring you are abreast with behaviour observation and support required for the participant's support
  • Meal preparation, shopping assistance and house cleaning
  • Taking participants for appointments and other community participation
  • Availability to cover a range of shifts including sleepovers and short shifts
  • Maintaining record of participants progress
  • Complete incident reports and ensure the right channels are advised with the necessary information
  • Undertake the completion of shift notes and proper documentation in line with Hands on People policy and procedures
  • Assist in other duties as required

Required Education/Licenses/Certificates

  • Hold a Certificate III/IV in Disability or Individual Support and demonstrated experience supporting people in a disability support setting
  • Current QLD unrestricted driver’s license
  • Current First Aid Certificate and CPR
  • Valid NDIS Card
  • Current National Police Check Report/ or must be able to obtain one
  • Valid BlueCard.

 

Required Knowledge/Experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and resilience skills
  • Adaptability in being able to deliver person-centred services in line with participant goals and needs
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to engage with different team members to facilitate support
  • Relevant experience in the same field or direct experience in being a career for a family member or friend
